How Should an Athlete Approach a Coach?
All athletes should have a plan when speaking to a coach because it shows discipline, self-control and respect. Our goal at Champion’s QUEST is to equip our athletes with the proper tools to effectively communicate with coaches. As a result, we offer a champion plan that will yield positive results and provide clear communication between the athlete and the coach. This plan is simple, yet very powerful. It is called the T.B.Y.A. PLAN.
Always remember, to Think Before You Ask a coach a question. This does 3 very important things: 1) reduces emotion, 2) shows consideration to the coach and 3) provides openness for future discussions with the coach. Listed below are 7 key questions to ask yourself before seeking answers from a coach.
1)The Timing of the question
2)The Location of the question
3)The Type of question
4)The Consequences of the question
5)The Tone of the question
6)The Purpose of the question and most importantly,
7)Does this question lead to My Personal goal and or the Team’s goal
Now, these 7 questions are the pillars of the T.B.Y. A.-” Think Before You Ask Plan” and lays the foundation for effective communication, clarity and most of all answers the question: How should an Athlete Approach A Coach?
