Coach Rogel will be partnering up with Champion’s QUEST Soccer Academy to help our soccer players take their games to the next level in 2018! Here are a few words from Coach Rogel:

Hi, my name is Rogel Lima. I am a Junior at California State University, Long Beach working toward my Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Kinesiology with an option in Fitness. I have played soccer for over fifteen years. I played four years of Varsity Soccer at Mayfair High School as a center defensive midfielder, where I was also captain of the team as a junior and senior. I played club soccer at Greater Long Beach and Hawaiian Gardens Eagles Soccer Clubs, playing the Center Back and Wing Back positions. With HG Eagles, I played three seasons in the Premier Division of Cal South’s Coast Soccer League. There I had the opportunity to participate in the Cal South National Cup, Surf Cup, Las Vegas Players Showcase, and the Hawaiian International Cup. In 2016-17, I coached Mayfair High School’s Junior Varsity Soccer team where we posted one of the better records the program has had.

temp-post-imageAt Champion’s QUEST, I have been able to find my niche in coaching. My goal is to improve the reaction times of not just soccer athletes, but all the athletes at Champion’s QUEST. Having a great reaction time is an essential quality to have as an athlete. As the speed of play in sports continues to rapidly increase, it is important that an athlete can adapt to such changes to be more prepared than their opposition. For example, turning the head before making turns or cuts is a simple, yet effective way to increase spatial awareness. This will give an athlete the ability to make faster decisions on their next step or action. It will also allow an athlete to react faster to position their body to avoid physical contact to reduce their risk of injury. This can be accomplished by teaching the athletes how to read their opponents movements and how to react to all situations. As I continue at Champion’s QUEST, I will continue to research aspects of reaction training and apply them in my training.

We are excited to have Coach Rogel assisting in developing our soccer athletes at Champion’s QUEST! To learn more about coach Rogel or reaction training, click the picture below.
