Injury Prevention Video: Hamstring Strength

Hamstring strains are one of the most common injuries that soccer players suffer from. These can leave a soccer athlete on the sidelines from weeks to months depending on the severity of the strain. A past hamstring strain raises the risk of another strain by a factor of six to eight times, so preventing the first injury would be really important.

One of the main risk factors for a hamstring strain is a muscular strength imbalance. Soccer players utilize their quadriceps muscle when kicking a ball, pushing off to sprint and when jumping. When the quads are stronger than the hamstrings, the amount of work they are able to perform at any moment can cause a strain of the muscle.
