Do You Always Understand What Coaches Want From You?

Do you understand coaches? Do you understand their expectations and what they want? Or, do you just simply move forward with what you assume they want? I am quite sure that these questions are in the minds of many athletes, as well as parents.
Below is what is referred to as “COACH SPEAK” – 10 points that are to help you get a better understanding of your coach, and to allow you to be committed to be the best athlete you can be both on and off the field!
- C – ask for clarity
- O – be open & optimistic
- A – remember that accuracy is your friend
- C – be consistent with goals & dreams – have a long-term view; remember that today is a building block for tomorrow
- H – remain humble & honest, no matter what
- S – be specific to you and your skill set
- P – remain positive & base all you do on performance, not emotions or comparisons to other players
- E – play with zeal and embrace enthusiasm & excellence
- A – be attentive to details
- K – keep the integrity and honor of your coach
