Written By: Reggie Ward

Do you understand coaches? Do you understand their expectations and what they want? Or, do you just simply move forward with what you assume they want? I am quite sure that these questions are in the minds of many athletes, as well as parents.

Below is what is referred to as “COACH SPEAK” – 10 points that are to help you get a better understanding of your coach, and to allow you to be committed to be the best athlete you can be both on and off the field!

  1. C – ask for clarity
  2. O – be open & optimistic
  3. A – remember that accuracy is your friend
  4. C – be consistent with goals & dreams – have a long-term view; remember that today is a building block for tomorrow
  5. H – remain humble & honest, no matter what
  6. S –  be specific to you and your skill set
  7. P – remain positive & base all you do on performance, not emotions or comparisons to other players
  8. E – play with zeal and embrace enthusiasm & excellence
  9. A – be attentive to details
  10. K – keep the integrity and honor of your coach
