This question is in the minds of many coaches, but the real focus of this question lies at the center of the new football world. This is for every home that has a child who desires to become the next Patrick MaHomes, Tom Brady, Lamar Jackson, Derrick Henry or just maybe… you have a daughter who wants to play in high school, receive a college scholarship, or has a dream of representing the United States in the next Olympics in 2028!!

Parents need to create an environment that is filled with encouragement, accountability and a tireless work ethic, built on discipline, love and a spirit of excellence. Now, to support this football atmosphere, the parent must have the football player embrace the qualities of life or what I like to call them, the 8 principles of a champion football player! Let’s break down the word FOOTBALL into 8 key points to clarify the world’s fastest growing sport for girls flag football ages 8-17.

F – master the fundamentals of the game: catching, running, receiving, blocking, tackling and most importantly IQ. IQ is vital to optimize performance on the gridiron. Football education has terms & definitions such as hole distribution, offensive formations and defensive coverage recognition that are essential because to truly “play the game, you must know the game”. Now, the O – prepares for the opponent in advance, physically and mentally. In addition, your athlete must remain O – open to change and flexibility because the game constantly changes, whether it’s based on play call, penalties, or speed. To further explore the dynamics of being a Champion, the football player needs to be T – tough, lead teammates and be teachable.

In this game, B – building hand-eye coordination and ball skills by displaying the 4 points of pressure: point, forearm, elbow, rib cage and broadening football intelligence. This can occur by showing players how to study videos, read plays, write cues & visualize goals to ensure success. As the champion football player continues to grow, keeping the right A – attitude, having a strong work ethic and handling adversity are key to advancing in the sport. Finally, the last 2 L’s are actually 4-fold: listen, learn, lead and love. Loving the game is the ultimate quality that separates a good player from a great player. This is by far the most crucial part of developing a champion football player. Start building your champion football athlete today—call, email and let’s make history!!!
