Cali is currently a high school senior in the class of 2025 with an athletic commitment to play volleyball for California State University, San Bernardino, a NCAA Division II powerhouse. She began her journey at Champion’s QUEST during her 11th grade year, seeking a change in her overall development process. Junior year of high school is a crucial time for college recruiting, and it was time for her to identify the strengths and weaknesses of herself from the college coaches’ standpoint. As a middle blocker standing at 6 foot 1 inches, Cali is considered undersized for her position in college.

This allowed us to focus on two specific areas:

1. Develop her vertical jump ability to compete with taller middle blockers
2. Develop her agility and quickness to transition to outside hitter.

With these developmental factors in mind, her initial testing results were:

1. Approach Vertical Jump: 9 feet 7.5 inches / 26.5 inches off the ground
2. Cumulative Agility Score: 5.5 points

The assessment was complete, the game plan was developed, and now it was time to get to work! Her developmental program consisted of all performance factors such as strength, power, agility and footwork, but it also included volleyball performance factors focusing on overhead ability and knee/lower leg abilities.

In 7.5 months, these were her results:

1. Approach Vertical Jump: 9 feet 11 inches / 30.0 inches off the ground
2. Cumulative Agility Score: 10.4 points

Completing her senior high school season, she was able to earn her scholarship to CSUSB, an All-CIF team selection, and also perfected the hang clean movement to prepare for collegiate volleyball. Our goals as we enter CSUSB in the summer of 2025 are to reach 10 feet or 120 inches on her approach vertical and to be considered a starter in her first year! Safe to say, she is well on her way.
