I.Q.: “The Ultimate Edge for Young Athletes”

Building I.Q: Part 3

Remember Part 1 of building an athletes I.Q. We reviewed the importance of who is the responsible for I.Q., answer the athlete is always responsible for actions on and off the field. In Part 2, we reviewed what the athlete needs to know, answer know the rules, understand the rules and play by the rules. Now let’s look at Part 3 on developing the athletes I.Q: When does the athlete need know IQ?

The athletes need to know I.Q. before the game, during the game and after the game. Why you might ask…. because the I.Q or the mental state of the athlete must remain high to achieve optimum performance throughout competition. The athlete needs to know I.Qbefore the game because this establishes understanding and knowledge the game plan. Once the athlete knows the plan, thenduring the game the athlete executes the plan. Lastly, after the game the athlete needs I.Q. to review the results and thus, evaluate performance, learn from mistakes and produce at a higher level in the next game.

The CHAMPION athlete understands and places supreme value on using I.Q. before, during and after the game. I.Q. creates the edge and this is truly, the difference between the average athlete and the CHAMPION athlete. The building blocks of I.Q are now forming : Part 1 being responsible for I.Q, Part 2: knowing the rules of the game and now Part 3: when does the athlete need to know I.Q. As a result, placing priority on all 3 phases of I.Q . puts the athlete in the position to achieve victory on and off the field.
