No Club Team, No Problem!

How This Athlete Went From No Experience To Making Her High School Volleyball Team!

This past year, Loren Forster enrolled in Champion’s QUEST wanting to get prepared for the Los Alamitos High School Volleyball team. Her background with Volleyball was only playing in a recreational league for the past two years, no club. During her assessment, we talked about the reality of her being athletically behind due to her not playing on a Club team which would have helped mold and build her skills and give her the opportunity to play against higher caliber players. She completely understood what she needs to accomplish in order to have a chance at making the Los Al Frosh/Soph team. So, when Loren enrolled in our program, she was ready to commit herself to improving her athletic abilities in every area.

Loren started our High School Prep program back in mid-February, committed to jump start her development. She started her with about 4-5 hour per week in our Speed, Strength and Volleyball Skill clinics. She has stayed on this same schedule for the past 6 months and has never given up on her goal to make the Los Al team.

During these six months, we were able to test her athleticism twice during our quarterly Benchmark Testing and her athletic score increased each time. When she did her initial assessment test, Loren’s score came in at a 6.3 out of 100, where a score of 24-36 is average for her age and height. Since then, she has been able to improve up to a 17.6 during her first benchmark and most recently bring it up to a 26.5, which is a 321% improvement. Loren is well on her way to continue to increase her athletic ability with her hard work and commitment to reaching her goals.

Just before Los Alamitos had their tryouts for Volleyball, we sat down to talk about how to approach the tryouts. We wanted to make sure that Loren was focused on her technique, aggressive on the court, encouraging to other athletes, and maintaining an overall positive mindset. With all that Lorena has gained from her training, physically and mentally, she went into the tryouts confident and ready for anything that might happen.

Success Story

When Loren’s Mother told me that she made the Frosh/Soph Red team, I was so excited for her because of all the hard work and the time she has put in for her training. She has not only been in the facility every week, but is also working on her skills at home every day. To have someone make the Los AL team who has never played Club, is a big accomplishment because of the high level of play those athletes experience every time they step on the court.

With Loren’s recent accomplishment and continued commitment, she is on a path to become a standout player on the Los Al team for the next four years. Moving forward, she needs to keep her focus on her training so that she can become a Varsity player before her Senior year. Even with Loren making the team, she is still a very modest and humble athlete. She will continue to grow and continue to develop her skills to one day get that Varsity spot.

Congratulations and good luck on the upcoming season Loren!
