It was during the 2015 Summer after his Freshman year he came to me asking if he had the ability to run the Hurdlers. I let him know that he definitely had the speed but just needed to work on his technique along with increasing his lower body flexibility. That summer we worked together to help him for the 2016 Spring Season. During that season he was able to get a second place school record for Frosh/Soph on the 110M Hurdlers and a fourth place record for the 300M Hurdlers. Jose is not only using his talents for Track events, he got onto the record books for the Frosh/Soph Long Jump at 20’ 7.5” to squeeze in a Tenth place mark.
Since then, Jose has been apart of their record setting 1600M Sprint Medley Relay Team during his Junior year and was able to win a National Championship for the event in both his Junior and this Senior years. He also was the anchor for another first place record setting team this year for the 4 x 100M Shuttle Hurdle Relay. Jose is a true testament for commitment to our program and is an ambassador to his other teammates and our athletes. This year he has once again been able to reach first place in the record books at Los Alamitos for the Boys Varsity Track & Field in both the 110M and 300M Hurdlers. And as of today, Jose is sitting on a second place record for the Long Jump by only 3.5” to a 29 year old record. With the right conditions and a good jump I think that Jose can surpass that record and have a total of three individual and three relay records at Los Alamitos before he graduates.
With all his accomplishments, Jose is still focused on continuing to pursue his goals at Los Alamitos and become a Division 1 athlete for a school that will help grow his talents on and off the field. Jose is a very coachable athlete and will be willing to help his team in any form that he can. With all his talents, there would be no limit to where Track & Field can take him.
