There is so much happening in sports nowadays, especially in youth sports. Athletes are being wooed by donors, media outlets, sponsors and businesses throughout the country at 7-on-7 events, high school invitationals and showcases. Of course it’s very cool to play a game you love and receive compensation, royalties, swag and financial gifts – but at what expense? Maybe the question is: do we still care about INTEGRITY? Or do we just want to win a game to simply get the bag? Better yet, how this will affect our children now and in the future?

“Integrity is a specific code of ethical and moral principles to be truthful and honest enough to do what is right. Individuals with integrity are incorruptible and always uncompromising in the moral and ethical values that they believe in” I am well aware that sports are changing with social media, collectives and international opportunities. Change is a part of life. Changes happen every day, every second, and change is in the fiber of sports. Every person has the God-given right to earn the mighty dollar based on their name, image, and likeness as well as their intelligence and skill. Do not misunderstand me, as I was a former athlete who received a scholarship, and I believe sports are a great teacher. They provide life lessons that develop confidence, self-reliance and the power of building relationships.

However, I beg to ask the question: how is this new era affecting the true spirit of the game? I simply want to remind all athletes to keep INTEGRITY close. Hold onto the core values of the spirit of the game because INTEGRITY is always, and always will be, the cornerstone of sports and living a quality of life!

Blessings!
