Mental Toughness: Out Smart the Competition!

“Champion’s QUEST has helped me to look at mistakes as learning and positive experiences.” - 14y.o. softball player - Lakewood, CA

The Key to Peak Performance

In competitive sports mental toughness and strength of character often make the difference between winning and losing. Young athletes enrolled in Champion's Quest experience a comprehensive mental toughness program that is integrated in our rigorous athletic development curriculum. The Champion's Quest mental toughness and character development protocol uses our highly regarded Athlete's Journal to give athletes the tools needed to reach success.  Based on the findings of leading sports psychologists and our work with thousands of youth athletes, we know the factors that increase mental toughness and strengthen character:

Confidence – The Foundation for Mental Toughness & Strength of Character

Confidence comes from knowing you are prepared and have the ability to reach your goals.  We have learned that for young athletes, confidence is positively correlated with performance.  The higher your performance capability, the greater your confidence.  Likewise, the greater your confidence, the more willing you are to work harder to improve.  Champion's Quest increases athletic confidence by building athletic ability.  Similar to climbing a spiral staircase, as your speed increases, your strength increases,  your agility increases and your endurance increases, your confidence increases.  Every three months, we test athletic confidence with our proprietary mental toughness evaluation assessment.  The conclusion is indisputable; increasing your athletic performance at Champion's Quest will increase your confidence.

Attitude and State of Mind – The Power of Positive

There’s only one word that should be associated with a winning attitude and state of mind and that word is “Positive”.  Athletic success is best managed by programming your mind for success with positive affirmations and expectations. Champion’s Quest coaches use our highly effective positive reinforcement methodology to help athletes unleash the power of positive attitude and state of mind.  Exercises include focus, visualization, behavior modification, practice tips, self-talk, time management, learning from failure, and scripting.

Success and Failure – The Ability to Learn from Both

The ability to learn from both success and failure is a readily recognized attribute of high performance athletes. In his career, six time NBA Champion Michael Jordan missed 9,000 shots, including 26 game winning shots, and lost 300 games - “I failed over and over, that is why I succeed.”  Jordan always played to win instead of playing with the fear of making mistakes.  Success and failure are stepping stones on the road to mental toughness and character development.  As young athletes develop both physically and mentally, the Champion’s Quest Peak Performance Program is designed to help athletes grow and learn from both success and failure.

Your Toughest Competitor – You

Mentally tough athletes understand that it's themselves, not their opponents that they should be most concerned with.   They are always their own toughest opponent.  As Tiger Woods recently said, "No matter how good you get you can always get better and that's the exciting part."  The best athletes always know they can do better and they focus their energy on continuous improvement. After all, you can only compete against other athletes during games but you can compete against yourself every minute of every day.  The Champion’s Quest mental toughness and character development system helps athletes learn the important techniques used by leading athletes to overcome challenges and improve performance.
